Style
Please view the Gallery page for examples of drawings.
- If you have a favourite drawing, include this in your purchase notes at the checkout so we can discuss the style to best fit the drawing you have in mind.
- If you have an existing portrait you would like matched (style, background, etc), include this in your comments; it is not only possible, but has been done before.
Imagery
Provide KTK Studios with a few of your favourite photos.
- Once your order is placed, KTK Studios will be in contact with you within 3 days; at this time, photos can be provided digitally or drop off scheduled for physical photos.
- We discuss the photo options and determine the one to be used.
- The unused photos provide references.
- See Photo Selection Tips for more.
Sizing
You determine the preferred size of your drawing.
- There are occasions where the sizing is not recommended due to the image; this is most often due to additional pets.
- Custom sizing is available and will be priced relative to existing prices; there is no extra charge.

Chromatics
All portraits can be in full colour or black and white.

Composition
We discuss the potential for cropping and background treatment.
- If we decide to crop the image, KTK Studios will send you the original photograph cropped to the boundaries they deem best, for your approval.
- The backgrounds are often modified. There are different styles in drawings on this site; you are encouraged to choose the background you prefer most. This often includes simplifying the background, patterns, etc.
Timeframe
We determine a timeline.
- Typical turnaround is 6 - 8 weeks.
- Special timeline requests can likely be accommodated; contact for more.

Photo Selection Tips
Quick Tips
The best drawings typically result from photos with the following:
- strong lighting and/or high contrast;
- high detail in the photo (ex: direction of fur visible);
- high pixel count (to zoom in and view detail as needed);
- for smaller drawing sizes: close ups (or photos that can be cropped to be close up).

Don't worry too much about things like the background; it typically gets edited anyways.

If you'd like to change something about the photo, just ask! Often we can come up with some sort of solution.

Above all: your favourite photo. The tips above are just tips; if you're going to be looking at this drawing, it should reflect what you want to see.

For Those Looking to Gift a Drawings
It is HIGHLY recommended to get the giftee's favourite photo of their pet; if required, be sneaky!
- This way you can ensure the giftee will be receiving a drawing that they feel perfectly captures their pet (think: personality, angle, colouring, favourite toy[s], etc.);
- Taking screenshots of images from social media often results in a lower quality images, therefore losing some of the crucial detail required to complete a drawing successfully. Often, the higher quality the image, the higher quality the drawing!

Final Photo Selection
It is up to you how opinionated KTK Studios is about the photo choice and drawing size.
- KTK Studios will ask if you have one in mind; be honest about how important it is to have that photograph drawn.
- If you do not have strong opinions, there is a good chance KTK Studios will; they will be looking for photos that they believe will 'translate' best to a drawing.
- However, as stated previously, the drawing should be a reflection of what you want to see. KTK Studios doesn't know your pet, they only know what you show in photos.

This photo would be a very cute drawing. It might not be the best photograph of a black cat (which are generally difficult to capture) but her personality is apparent, there is enough information in the lighting, and it's a favourite photo of her owner.

This photo would work very nicely for a drawing. There is the option to zoom in on her face, there is enough contrast that could be highlighted in the drawing, and she is engaged with the camera. There is also the option to simplify the pattern on the bedding.

This photograph would make for a great drawing. There is a lot of contrast, she is engaged with the camera, and she is in a good pose. Despite the lighting losing some of her true colouring, reference photos would allow for changes.
This would make for a good drawing. Although she looks very cute, the angle can be awkward to look at when hung at eye level, I don't have enough detail in her fur, and her personality isn't apparent.
Framing
Why Must the Drawings be Framed
As the material is chalky media on paper, the drawing will need to be put under glass to protect it.

Shipping
Framed drawings cannot be shipped at this time. By request, KTK Studios can provide framing recommendations.

Some Things to Consider
Off-the-shelf frames are not guaranteed to be archival, but they are a cost-effective method to protecting and displaying your drawing(s).
If you would like archival options, you will have to consider custom framing; see below.

Custom Framing
Custom framing ensures that the drawings will have
- UV protective glass (non-glare available) at most frame shops to prevent fading of drawing and matting;
- acid-free mounting, mats, and frames;
- sealed backing (to prevent particles from getting into the drawing).
The goal of custom framing is to ensure that the drawing could be opened 100 years from now with minimal change. This is the recommended approach for original artwork.
Custom framing is more expensive than off-the-shelf framing, but it is the best option for the longevity of your drawing, as well as the aesthetic results of framing.
- most custom frame shops have hundreds of mat and framing options, leading to countless combinations;
- the colour and style can be customized to your taste, to match the colours within the drawings, and to best showcase the drawing;
- it ensures the drawing will last for many years without fading or damage, so long as the framing is kept intact.
Framing Consultation
I have +5 years experience in custom framing. If you would like to discuss the benefits in greater detail, please ask.
If you would like to have your drawing custom framed but would like a Framing Consultation, I will accompany you to a frame shop (within Regina limits) for $50 for up to 1 hour. This is a separate purchase item in the Shop; please include this at the checkout. If you do not purchase it at the original time of the order, you can purchase it separately at a later date. It can also be purchased separately; this could be useful for those who receive the drawing as a gift and would like a consult with the artist.

If You Choose to Frame it on Your Own
The sizes listed are typical sizes per common frames; therefore, you will have access to many off-the shelf frame options.
Ensure there is a minimum 1 mat for the reasons listed above; this means the size of the frame will be larger than the drawing. Typical sizes are as follows:
5 x 7" drawing: 8 x 10" frame
8 x 10" drawing: 11 x 14" frame
11 x 14" drawing: 16 x 20" frame
16 x 20" drawing: 18 x 24" frame
If desired, I am happy to discuss framing options at no additional charge; I can provide valuable information regarding archival options, cost effective solutions, and style recommendations. This does not include an in-person consult.
